Northern Ventures
Corporation (NVC) was founded by Mr. Lawrence Levy in 1982, who serves
as its President and Chief Executive Officer. He has over forty years experience
in senior management and technical positions related to the industrial and
government efforts of the United States in the biotechnology, computer, energy,
electronics and defense/aerospace fields, and has extensive international
experience.
Over his career,
Mr. Levy has specialized in bringing important technology to the marketplace,
starting and growing companies, and formulating unique approaches to the commercialization
of products on a major scale. Mr. Levy has served as the Chief Executive Officer
of Allied Research Corporation, Northern Energy Corporation, and was Vice
President-Corporate Development and Vice President-International of the Raytheon
Company. In this latter job, he formulated and led the marketing effort for
the billion dollar sale of the Hawk missile to Saudi Arabia. He served in
the U.S. Delegation to NATO in Paris, France in the two titled capacity as
Minister for Defense Affairs and Representative of the U.S. Secretary of Defense
in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. In this capacity, he had the
responsibility for the management of several multilateral research, development
and production programs, with an annual budget of over $300 million. While
President of Allied Research, and as Chairman of its affiliate British company,
Allied Systems Limited, Mr. Levy led the successful effort to sell the Hawker
Siddeley Vertical Takeoff and Landing aircraft, the Harrier, to the U.S. Marine
Corps. Mr. Levy currently serves on the Board of Directors of several client
companies, and NVC provides active consulting to some of them in key management
areas. He is currently the President (part-time basis) of the Research Institute
for Genetic and Human Therapy (RIGHT) with laboratories devoted to AIDS and
cancer research in Pavia, Italy and at Georgetown University in Washington,
DC. Mr. Levy holds a Master of Science Degree in Engineering from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (MIT).
Ms. Joanne
M. Luongo serves as a Director and Vice President of Administration, and
as Secretary/Treasurer of NVC, and has been an officer of NVC since its beginning
in 1982. She has over thirty years experience in administrative management,
finance and support activities. She has been involved particularly in assisting
startup and young companies with their administrative and financial activities
and has excellent experience in these areas.
Ms. Luongo served
as Assistant Secretary and Assistant Treasurer for several years at Northern
Energy Corporation, a company devoted to the commercialization of alternative
energy technologies. She played a substantive role in the coordination of
all programs and administrative activities. Additionally, Ms. Luongo had the
responsibility for handling matters concerning meetings of the large 21 person
Board of Trustees, and was the principal communications point for related
activities. In other positions, she worked for several years at Northeast
Airlines, Inc. where she held positions related to administrative support
of the Vice-President-Sales and the Director of Sales. She also worked for
Delta Airlines, Inc. after it acquired Northeast. Prior to these activities,
Ms. Luongo held administrative support positions for nine years with the Avco-Everett
Research Laboratory of the Avco Corporation in Everett, Massachusetts. She
attended Boston College and over the years has taken courses in business administration
at Boston University.
A key colleague
of NVC is Mr. Richard Johnson, who has been associated with NVC for
many years. He has over thirty (30) years experience in general management,
marketing and technology commercialization and has a proven track record of
providing design leadership, differentiating products and creating a brand
identity that can help companies succeed in the marketplace. He also has an
extensive network of highly qualified national and international marketing,
product design and engineering firms.
Mr. Johnson heads
Rich Johnson Design Strategies and utilizes a visual process as a problem
solving tool that features a unique combination of design and marketing expertise
to help companies win in the marketplace. He has over twenty (20) years with
Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) - and recently with Compaq Computer Corporation
that acquired DEC. For the past eleven (11) years, he was Director of Industrial
and Graphic Design at DEC, and then Director of Strategic Industrial Design
at Compaq. In this capacity he developed innovative product concepts that
included hand held devices, notebooks, desktop and desk side systems, and
large cabinet products. He also conducted analyses of customer data, competitive
data, and design objectives. The organizations that he managed received more
than 135 patents and 32 national and international design awards. Previous
work experience was with Pepsico Building Systems of the Pepsico Corporation,
and as a consulting industrial designer to design firms and corporations.
Mr. Johnson's capabilities can be brought to bear on tasks undertaken by NVC
for clients. He has worked as an integral member of the NVC team, and his
unique capabilities have been extremely beneficial for several NVC clients.
Mr. Johnson holds
a B.S. degree in Industrial Design from the University of Cincinnati. At Babson
College he participated in executive training programs for: Management of
Technology for Global Integration for the management, development and marketing
of international products; Accelerated Management Development to further develop
business and organizational skills.
Ms. Kerrin
Cassel has served as a principal consultant to NVC since 1996, and has
expertise in marketing and international finance.
From 1996 to
1999, her activities were conducted in New York City and New England, and
in mid-1999, she relocated to Newport Beach, California. Her current objective
is to participate in projects in the western part of the U.S. She is also
available to undertake assignments in Latin America and Southeast Asia. Ms
Cassel has lived abroad in Japan, where she taught English; in Spain, where
she studied at the University of Seville; and Chile, where she worked for
the Chilean Congress as part of a scholarship program. Prior to affiliating
with NVC, she worked as a trader for the Fuji Bank in New York City.
Ms. Cassel is
a graduate of Cornell University's School of Arts and Sciences, and holds
an Arts Degree in Spanish. She speaks fluent Spanish and proficient Japanese.
